It's been a busier season than usual on the Record Breaker front, and this past week was no exception. It started last Wednesday at Sugarland Run, as CountrySide's Janika Perezous erased 64 years worth of CSL records in a matter of hours. In the Girls 8&Under 25Y Backstroke, her time of 17.99 eclipsed the 1977 mark of 18.30. And in the Girls 8&Under 100Y Individual Medley, the 1981 record time of 1:31.01 was smashed by her new record time of 1:28.07.
Saturday at Barrington, the Blue Fins' Brandon Fabian also doubled up on new records, first in the Boys 11-12 50Y Freestyle where his time of 24.95 nipped the previous mark of 25.01, set twenty-nine years ago. Just ten events later in the Boys 11-12 50Y Backstroke, he bettered the 1997 record time of 29.53 with a swim of 29.26. Wrapping things up was Rachel Canty of the Burke Centre Stingers, whose time of 1:01.52 in the Girls 15-18 100Y Individual Medley surpassed the mark of 1:03.35 set earlier this season.
On Sunday, it was back to Sugarland Run. Striking first was Barrington's Boys 15-18 200Y Medley relay, as Shane Hulse, Nick Hietanen, Michael Herrmann, and Alex Martin zipped to a new record time of 1:45.06, beating last year's mark of 1:45.73. One event later, it was a "deja vu all over again" performance by the Hayden Village Villains' Morgan Bui, Matty Ferguson, Natalie Dillinger, and MacKenzie Cripe, recording a time of 1:57.79 and shattering the 1984 mark of 1:59.36 in the Girls 15-18 200Y Medley relay.
