There was no shortage of close meets this week. The Armfield Farm at Barrington meet had 7 lead changes, 35 events after which there was a single digit lead, and it came down to the next to last relay. Franklin Glen won by only 6 at Sequioa Farms in another meet that was decided by the last two relays. In Arlington, Chase Club won the last four relays but came up one point short against the Holy Mackerels. And the ManorGate at Hayden Village meet featured 9 lead changes, a whopping 41 events with under-10-point leads, and it also was not decided until the last two events.
Fort Myer and Franklin Glen now appear to have control over the White and Blue Divisions, respectively, with both teams having already beaten their closest pursuers. In the Gold Division, the Arlington Knights of Columbus stand alone at the top, but their week 5 showdown at Sugarland Run will likely end up deciding the title. And in the Red Division, unbeatens South Riding and Franklin Farm meet this weekend to break the tie. Note that Chase Club and Broadlands are still very much in the Gold and Red Division races, respectively, with their 2-1 records.
In addition to the close meet at Barrington, there were four league record breaking performances there. In the Boys 15-18 50Y Backstroke, Blue Fin standout Michael Herrmann continued his family's multi-year assault on this standard, this time lowering it to 25.28. In the Boys 11-12 100Y Individual Medley, Barrington's Brandon Fabian swam a time of 1:05.20, breaking the 37-year old record of 1:05.80. In the Boys 13-14 100Y Individual Medley, Armfield Farm's Dennis Lai surpassed the old mark of 59.90 with a new time of 58.09. And finally in the Boys 15-18 100Y Individual Medley, Michael Herrmann struck again, swimming a time of 55.58, and nipping by 0.03 seconds the old mark set in 1986.
Congratulations Brandon, Dennis, and Michael! Way to go!
